The margin problem

Why misses cost more when data is inside your product

If you charge customers a flat price and your data vendor bills every attempt, each lookup that finds nothing comes out of your margin.

RichAPI's waterfall endpoints try several providers in turn and stop at the first result. If none returns one, the response says "billed": falseand your balance doesn't move. Your cost tracks the results your customers receive.

This rule covers the three waterfall endpoints. Every other endpoint bills at its published rate, per call or per result.

Execution log

What your team sees on every waterfall call

Each waterfall response includes an execution_log: which providers ran, the status of each, how long each took, and whether the call billed.

When a customer asks why a contact came back empty, your support team answers from the log instead of opening a ticket with a vendor.

A waterfall call that returns no result. It bills zero and the response says "billed": false. If a result comes back, the call bills at the endpoint's published rate. On email_verifier, an "invalid" verdict is a result and bills 2 credits.
